Perrott hill School, venue for this year's International Week of Beer and Music

14th Internation Week of Beer and Music

15-22 July 2007, Perrott Hill, Somerset

The Week of Beer and Music is an annual event held for the benefit of young professionals and music students from across the globe who wish to gain orchestral experience in a profesional climate. The first three days are given over to rehearsals, including sectionals with some of the country's most experienced orchestral players. There are then three public performances in stunning venues.

The week is also a great time for relaxation, with an open air pool, several tennis courts and acres of sports fields to enjoy at this year's venue Perrott Hill School near Crewkerne in Somerset, where meals are frequent and the staff very friendly. And don't forget the free beer, sponsored by Uley Brewery.

Who can apply?

The course is open to music students and young professionals from anywhere in the world. Whilst many applications come from Conservatoires, we warmly encourage applicants from Universities and from anyone hoping to be in the profession soon.

There is one place available for an assistant conductor, including some tuition and the opportunity to conduct in one of the concerts. Contact us for more details

There are a few places for non-orchestra players. The cost is the same, but you will be expected to carry out a few duties, such as shifting percussion, selling programmes and stewarding at concerts.

How much will it cost?

£160 is all it costs for the week. This takes care of all your needs, including travel to the concerts, although you may need some money for the bar if you don't like beer. There is also a returnable damages deposit of £20, which will be refunded after course (all being well).

If you know of a company or individual who will pay half or more of your fee, your benefactor will be named in the programmes as Sponsor of your Chair. (Students often get their parents to sponsor their chair.) Many music colleges will help with the cost of courses, if applied for in good time. We will offer five half price places to people with genuine financial hardships. Contact us for more details

Free Beer!

Anyone who's been on the course before will know that the free beer in the evenings is an integral part of the week. We aim to provide as many different types of real ale as possible - a lot will come from Uley Brewery, one of our sponsors. If you don't like beer, don't worry, there's plenty of choice in the very cheap bar!
